Travel well prepared
What is holiday dialysis?
Holiday dialysis – also commonly referred to as vacation dialysis or guest dialysis – allows you to continue your regular dialysis treatment at another dialysis center while traveling. You plan your trip and coordinate your dialysis appointments with a Sanecum dialysis center in your chosen travel region. This means you can continue to travel while living with chronic kidney disease – whether visiting family, taking a break by the sea or enjoying a city trip.

01
How does holiday dialysis work?
Holiday dialysis continues your familiar treatment at a new location. You choose a travel region and a suitable dialysis center, provide your travel dates and preferred dialysis days, and submit the key medical information. The center will then check whether capacity is available during your stay and whether your treatment can be continued safely and appropriately at that location. An appointment will only be arranged once these checks have been completed. Your regular treatment – such as hemodialysis several times a week – continues as usual, just in your chosen holiday region.
02
What information does the dialysis center need?
To allow a center to assess your request well, several details are helpful: your current dialysis plan and dialysis regime, a current medication plan, your infection status, relevant diagnoses and findings, and the contact details of your home dialysis center. In addition, your travel period and your preferred dialysis days are needed. This information helps the center to review the medical requirements and to continue your treatment safely. It is best to have these documents ready when you submit your request.
03
How early should I request?
As a rule, the earlier the better. An early request gives the center enough time to carefully review availability and medical requirements and to clarify any open questions with you and, where appropriate, with your home dialysis center. Especially during popular travel periods and holiday regions, demand can be high. A specific lead time cannot be stated in general, as it depends on the location, travel period and individual situation – so it is best to plan the request right at the start of your travel planning.
04
What to prepare for your trip
Beyond the medical documents, it is worth planning the journey to the center, suitable accommodation within easy reach and enough breaks between treatments. Clarify with your treating doctor whether your individual situation allows a trip and what to keep in mind while traveling. This way the holiday can be enjoyed in a relaxed way, while the treatment continues reliably.
Important information about your holiday dialysis
The information provided on this page is intended for general guidance and does not replace individual medical advice. Whether traveling and holiday dialysis are suitable for you depends on your individual medical situation and should be discussed with your treating physicians. Submitting an online request does not constitute a confirmed appointment. Availability and medical requirements will be individually reviewed by the respective dialysis center as part of your request.
