Frequently asked questions about holiday dialysis

You will find answers to the most important questions about dialysis while traveling in our frequently asked questions.

What is holiday dialysis?

Holiday dialysis – also known as vacation dialysis or guest dialysis – allows you to continue your regular dialysis treatment at another dialysis center while traveling. This means you can travel without interrupting your treatment.

How do I request holiday dialysis at Sanecum?

Choose your travel region and a suitable Sanecum center, then submit your travel dates and key medical information through our online request form. The respective dialysis center will then review availability and medical requirements and get back to you.

Is my request already a confirmed appointment?

No. A request is not yet a binding appointment confirmation. The respective dialysis center first reviews whether capacity is available during your period and whether the medical requirements are met. An appointment is coordinated only afterwards.

Which documents do I need for holiday dialysis?

As a rule, a current dialysis plan, a medication plan, the infection status and the contact details of your home dialysis center are required. Relevant diagnoses and findings as well as your travel period with the preferred dialysis days are also helpful.

How early should I request holiday dialysis?

We recommend requesting your holiday dialysis as early as possible. This allows sufficient time to check availability and medical requirements. Demand may be higher, particularly during popular travel periods. The required lead time depends on the respective center and travel period.

In which regions is holiday dialysis available with Sanecum?

Often yes. Many Sanecum locations are in well-connected areas. It is best to coordinate the specific journey – for example by public transport, taxi or transport service – directly with the location. Information on accessibility can be found on the respective location pages.

Does my health insurance cover the cost of holiday dialysis?

Coverage of the costs depends on your health insurance and place of residence and may vary from person to person. Please clarify the coverage of costs with your health insurance provider and your home dialysis center in advance.
